Why Stock Markets?
Stocks are stakes, shares in a company, providing you ownership rights and dividend incomes. Stock markets are witnesses of wonderful enrichment and impoverishment stories every day. Many of the richest people in the world made their fortunes from stock investments. Or, their company was listed on the stock exchange later and raised capital from the stock market.
In some countries, levels of interest rates and bond yields have also fallen into negative territory. Today, the money of most investors is losing value. It is to fear that the higher inflation of the 1970s and 1980s will return in the coming years. Because central banks have provided unprecedented responses to the unprecedented crisis, printing an astonishing amount of money. The best protection against inflation, negative real interest rates is the buying of any real-assets. Such as precious metals, real estate, farmland.
But most companies also hold real assets such as machinery, real estate, commodities, other materials. Companies can increase their product or service prices in line with inflation. So, their profits, and thus the price of shares, may rise with or above inflation.
Commodities don’t pay dividends. Moreover, they can even reduce your capital slowly through the phenomenon of “contango.” During crises, real estate can stay without tenants, can lose their value, and sales of objects can be difficult. Today, equities cannot be missing from any portfolio.
